I gotta walk before I can run!

Problem with photos like these is that the perspective isn't exactly the same as our eyeballs. It's more distorted.

I'm so glad I have this toy, because he's pretty close to Slab. Especially his head shape. I need to learn to do the right perspective so that he looks planted on the ground, and that things wrap around him correctly.

  1. cool toy!

you've lost the perspective of the feet.
I think his head is bigger and his body a little more thin.

I like your line, is very clear.

  2. more space behind the face

arm is not 2 parallel lines

    but looks pretty solid

I would fix that stuff with another color on top of the same drawing

  3. Wow nice. Do you use the photo or do you draw the toy from real?

  4. I draw from the toy for real- so it's eye level, and you can look around it to see where things are.

  6. I see you made a slight change to the arm but haven't made the correction I suggested about the face.

You need more space behind the face.
Put the drawing on top of the photo in photoshop and you'll see.

Then make the correction, and then draw the toy from different angles and keep those same things in mind. Train your eye to see negative spaces as well as positive spaces.

The thing about the face and head construction is a common misjudgment among cartoonists and easy to fix. But you have to be aware of it at all times, and always apply it.
