Roughs - Davi

my first tries of the exercise.
I can see some proportions that are not right... and I lost a lot of the negative space...
I will try to correct this.
Chris and Anne... your studies look good. It helped me a lot to look at yours first.
abraço,

  1. everything has been toned down

the contrasts in shapes and sizes are all less than the original

you've got to use WORDS to analyze the contrasts

there is less construction than the original

you are doing the opposite of what the goal is

    the goal is:

to fix mistakes, like the space between Slab and Ernie in my drawing is too cramped, so I had to draw Ernies hand to small on the left

to make everything solid - WHILE MAINTAINING THE CONTRASTS AND NEGATIVE SHAPES OR EXAGGERATING THEM

Everything in your copy is less interesting, more cramped than the original so there is no point in this added step

Layout is meant to fix mistakes, make each successive post flip with the last one and make sure there is room enough for all the action to take place

it's not meant to even everything out, take out the construction and even out all the interesting contrasts and shrink the negative spaces

This seems to be a concept no one is getting and I can't figure out why

look at the layouts I did and how I did them and read the words I wrote explaining what I was doing

  2. and don't draw sharp corners on bended knees or on toes fingers etc.

that instantly flattens out the drawings and distracts from the overall poses

  3. You are always right and I really, really want to learn how to be a good layout artist.

I my next try I will work only in one image to see if I understand all te concepts. I will not try to draw all at once again... it is too much to analyse.
I will also analyse with words my next drawing.

I will be busy until the next weekend with a lot of illustrations and 2 comic book pages (where I try to do everything that you teach us).

I will work on those layout studies as soon as I finish.

thanks again for all the adivices.
