I've been drawing some Jerrys from the model sheets that John put in one of the last posts.
There's a thing that I do a lot to try to achieve the flow that this poses have, and that is: The "S" lines... or shapes... I don't know, haha. Well, I'm gonna try to explain this, but first, the checks:

This drawing is too large, it seems that I stretched Jerry. The line of action is too strong than the original drawing, which is more subtle.
The head is too small and has a more egg-shaped form.
The right foot has a different angle than the original drawing.

This was a more accurate pose. The line of action has to be more marked, more strong.
I think the head is good, but some features are wrong, like eyebrows and ears
The line of action makes the whole body looks like it's moved to the right.

I think this line of action is good but I made the body to largeIn the head, some features have to go more above, like the eyes and cheeks.

This is an interesting poseMy line of action was good but I put the feet in the wrong place. I didn't take atention to the negative space between the arm and the leg.
I made the body more thin.

The head is very interesting. The nose doesn't follow the LOA from the head, is a little more turned to the right. Jerry has a grimace that pushes all this part up to the right, that's why his cheek is so marked also

The original drawing has a great flowMy head is more turned down
The left arm is wrong too.
Now comes the part of the "S"
I've noticed that the whole body has many S lines, I think that this is what makes them flow so well.In this pose the but is connected with the leg by an S line, that is what that part flow so good, so when I made this poses I look every S line to make them flow better.
In this pose, the line of action it's also an S line. The but is connected with the arm, so all the body flow through this line.I hope I made this thing clear, hehe
maybe I'm crazy but I see the fucking "S"!!!!
cya

but = butt
ReplyDeletesorry, my english it's not so good
:P
Very cool observation!! I'll start looking for S's now, I think I see what you mean.
ReplyDeleteyes.. this "S" line moves the head in a different angle from the body... and seens that the pose gets more natural.
