Layout Study - "Slab & Ernie"

Hello everybody,

here comes my studies of the last exercise.

it was harder than the one with Kaspar, specially because I haven't practiced a lot the model of these characters.

I just finished the drawings (I need to rest) so I can not see the mistakes yet.

I will take a look tomorrow and I will be able to post a self critique of the exercise.

I want to do more of this, it is very cool.

abraço

  1. selfcritiques about the exercise:

I don't know the model of the characters very well, I think I would come up with better drawings if I had practiced like we did with Kaspar.

I think Slab's head changes a lot from drawing to drawing... I was checking this morning and it doesn't seems right. I don't think the expression in his eyes are right too... in the original drawings they look more funny.

Ernie's hands were very hard to draw.. I think I got how to draw his feet better than his hands. Ernie's head was also a challenge... I tihnk the one in the last drawing were the worst, but I also got confused in how I could finish it.

I am a bit lost actually.

I will have lots of free time the next week... I will work on a personal project but I would also like to practice more.

Mr. John K... Should I keep working on Slab & Ernie's layouts or practice something else???

    thank you,

    davi

  2. It's not a bad start.

    2 things:

    1) Construction should be stronger. Charcters look wobbly and soft

    2) Poses and expressions are toned down and evened out.

This seems to be a big problem for many. You have to do the analysis that I wrote about

Look at the post I did on the main blog today. Character design 3.

I am always trying to improve construction and not to toned down poses and expressions...

I will write te analysis in the next exercise that I am doing... I will post until the end of the week.

Your posts on the main blog are very helpful... the last one was great.

    thanks again,
