I painted the bg of the kaspar drawing with the background changed a little. I think i really lost a sense of scale in it though. The house looks too small. I think the problem that I'm having is that I keep evening things out and making them look bland. I noticed that especially when I was drawing the characters. I have to try to force myself to push contrasts. I changed the ranger's face a lil, I went back and copied a bunch of the other rangers on older posts, and took what I liked about them.
I noticed how much having that lil window in the house helps. There was another bg that I copied a while back that did the same kind of thing and boy does it make a difference. Another thing I learned when I was doing the alice in wonderland practice and applied to this was that I had accidentally left a little bit of negative space between the bushes in the back, and my eye shot right to that exact spot, phew, so I corrected that fast.
uau...
ReplyDeletethis looks very very very good.
I always love your backgrounds... and the characters are very funny... it just seems that they were more inclined (I don't know if it is the right word) to the right in the original layout.
well it is beautifull anyway.
it inspires as always.
thanks,
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you're right about the characters. I keep evening things out on accident.
Whoa! Very nice. I am so envious of those that can paint. This looks great. If I can put in any criticism (not knowing color theory myself) it would be that the colors of the Rangers, and Kaspar to some extent, are too close to the rest of the background. They blend in rather than stand out. Maybe brighter, flat greens, like Ranger Smith would give it that old cartoon feel. Just an thought.
ReplyDeletePS - I love that Kaspar's body isn't seen through the hole. Very Tex Avery!
hahaha, i didn't even notice the hole thing! i liked the window so much i didn't even bother to consider that there should be a bear behind it. I'm sure your right about the outfits too, i should have turned up the saturation on them.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could show you guys how i'm doing these, it's actually a really simple process.
Well, you're only an 8 hour car ride away. =)
ReplyDeleteI have to get over my fear of color and just get with it already.
