Those first 2 BGs are BGs that I copied from "donald's diary" , I need to copy like every BG from that cartoon, they're all super beautiful. They take me a bit longer than the HB BGs i've been doing, but i'm getting the hang of it.
Oh and I noticed that on the donald's diary BGs that the light sources are really well thought out. I recommend people practice those, they're teaching me a lot.
The second three pics are Eisenberg comic pages that I copied and inked the Yogi traditionally and then just did the whole BG in photoshop using his layout but my color and texture.

have you ever tried to create cartoon bg from "real world"... like.. to see a building and draw it in a carton style?
I am asking because I am trying and it seems fun... but it doesnt looks very good yet.
I will practice this while I am traveling..

Donald's Diary is one of the best, that's certain! Have you done many studies in greyscale? I often work out the values of an image before I color it, do you ever do the same?
ReplyDeleteno kelly, i've never studied anything in greyscale. I'm kinda just starting to understand the difference in value/hue/saturation.
ReplyDeleteit is a good idea though, i'd like to desaturate some of my BG studies so i can see the values better and understand what is doing what
take your reference images into photoshop and use image>adjustments>desaturate this will show you the values used in the original. I can almost guarantee, once you start doing this, and seeing how they used values, your own paintings will become more clear and easy to read.
