More Kaspar!

The first time I drew Kaspar I could not draw him on model for the life of me. This time he still isn't perfect but I tried my best to redraw him. I didn't want to complete the drawing only to find out that everything that I did is completely off. I first started off with some very loose construction just to try to get the proportions and angles right.

Of course at this stage there are plenty of mistakes, I would name them all but that would take up a lot of space.

I went over the original sketch and make a bunch of changes then scanned it again and put it over the original.

There are still problems, but it's getting a lot better. The biggest problem is the face is in the wrong place entirely. At this point the sketch is too messy to draw over it again so I had to print it out in light blue and draw over that.

I then went ahead and altered the image some more and then inked on top of it.

It looks fine, but then I did the final overlay. STILL OFF!!!!

I just can't seem to get that face or feet right!

I then drew a Kaspar based off of one of John's sketches and added the wolf from another John Kaspar sketch. I tried to make him more on model unlike my previous batch and tried to keep the essence of the drawing as much as possible. I think it is a lot more successful than the previous ones, but I know that I'm not there yet and need to keep drawing Russian bears!

  1. On the new one

you are toning down the contrasts and shrinking the negative spaces

try constructing with simpler shapes first, then checking that against the original to see if the proportions have changed
