it is harder than I thoght (but fun).. I think it would be even harder to copy from the real toy than it is to study from a picture..
I had problems with the neck... none of my drawings got the real shape or the real angle of his neck... and it is easer to see this now that I put the drawing and the picture side by side.

it was a good exercise, now I will go back to practice Kaspar's construction.. those ones are really giving me lot of work.

The proportions aren't bad.
ReplyDeletePart of the point of the exercise of drawing toys is to capture, not only the construction and proportions...
But to capture the feel of the material, in this case the soft rubber.
your finished line is the same line that you use for your pure cartoo drawings and doesn't suggest how the rubber feels. It's too rough and harsh.
You are also missing a layer of planes.
For example, look at his sleeves. They aren't just 2 dimensional ovals. There is a surface plane facing us, then it bends away from us where it wraps around his arm.
Same thing with the bottom of the shirt where it tucks into his pants. You are missing a plane.
