I worked on another background with trees in it. It's like bear's house. I keep trying to draw a lot of background layouts but I think maybe all of this information that I'm trying to absorb at once is starting to get to me. I think maybe I just need to give it time to settle. I have a giant stack of failed drawings sitting next to my desk. I think that main branch in the front is too bold and distracting and it competes with the cave, I had originally intended to make it dark but then it blended too much with the opening of the cave. I think maybe if I reduce the size of the cave it might look better. Also I don't think there is enough to draw your eye to that light spot where I want you to look, I shoulda arranged more trees and branches to subtly point to that direction. Also should have probably used a bit more green in areas, maybe on the back part of the cave.
I have an even larger stack of failed screwy squirrel poses. I think I'm starting to have more fun with the screwy squirrel poses though. After drawing so many of them I'm getting a better idea of who screwy squirrel is and what he would do. There's so much I have to think about and so much problem solving. Alot of times when I try to carefully work out the structure bit by bit the end drawing looks really stiff, but when I try to get all fun and crazy and working intuitively off the line of action, the structure ends up looking all horrible. I think the arms are usually where I have the most trouble, i think it's hard for me to figure out how his little skinny arms go up around his big cartoon head.
ok, also added another bg i just did this morning, this time I made more of an effort to point things toward the animal hole in the tree. Also I made sure to have high contrast between the tree and the sky where the hole is, to try to draw your eye there. i think maybe the hierarchy of details is kinda ambiguous on this though. they seem kinda all over the place.
ok, this last one i can't even tell you what's wrong with it, i just know that if I look at it any longer my brain is going to break. I figure it's kind of drab though
Hello!
ReplyDeleteI always feel like a dingus trying to give help on here (you're more advanced, especially at the BG's, which you've been working with more) but here's a suggestion:
I think instead of overlapping the cave as much with the branches, it would have perhaps been more effective to frame the focus of the picture with it.
That said, your browns and grays are getting richer! I love these and always look forward to seeing more of them from you.
