Step one left out some of the basic construction and went straight to a finished silhouette - esp the dog.
Step 2 is missing, showing how the secondary forms are constructed- like the folded flesh - the lip- of the dog, that is peeled back around his snarling teeth.
I think because you have a really good eye, you are naturally wanting to copy it exactly, rather than reasoning the forms out.
It looks like 70% eyeballing, 30% thinking.
We should all aim for 50% eye, 50% brain.
The goal is to be able to apply the techniques that make those old drawings look so great to new drawings that you create.
When I get a chance, I will take the first 2 steps and demonstrate the construction.
Great teeth! They look so intimidating, but you did a good job handling all those details sensibly. Nice idea for checking negative spaces, too!
